    Since its founding in 1991, EIKON magazine has addressed a broad audience interested in photography and media art. EIKON’s readership includes not only artists, cultural and media scholars, filmmakers, gallery owners, art collectors, and museum and exhibition visitors, but also numerous students and trainees. The target audience is also found in creative fields such as design, architecture, graphic design, and publishing, and consists of many international figures interested in contemporary art.

    About Eikon

    The Austrian Institute for Photography and Media Art (founded in 1991) dedicates its activities to the social, humanistic, and art-critical examination of the medium of photography and related fields, media art, and image theory.

    EIKON Magazine

    As the publisher of the periodical, bilingual journal EIKON – Magazine for Photography and Media Art, the central thematic focuses are the artistic practice of photography and media art as well as their theory, the artistic and scientific actors, and institutions and organizations with their respective programs.

    EIKON Online

    Communication and exchange with interested parties and actors are provided by the online services www.eikon.at, the EIKON email newsletter, and the EIKON social media channels.

    EIKON Exhibitions

    The institute curates and organizes thematic and monographic exhibitions at its MuseumsQuartier Wien location in the EIKON Schauraum and elsewhere in collaboration with partner organizations.

    EIKON Library

    A specialized library with a collection of approximately 8,000 volumes and journals is available at the MuseumsQuartier Wien location (appointment required).
