Das Erscheinen der vorliegenden Heftausgabe am 5. November 2024
\nf\u00e4llt mit einem geschichtstr\u00e4chtigen Datum zusammen: der 60. Pr\u00e4sidentschaftswahl in den USA. Einer der beiden Anw\u00e4rter:innen f\u00fcr das h\u00f6chste Amt der Vereinigten Staaten lieferte urspr\u00fcnglich auch die Inspiration daf\u00fcr, in dieser Nummer ein Thema aufzugreifen, das seit einigen Jahren durch die Medien geistert und an deren Verbreitung \u2013 wenngleich die betreffende Person sich stets als deren Opfer sah \u2013 er selbst bis zum heutigen Tag an vorderster Stelle mitwirkte; denn unter dem Schlagwort \u201eFake News\u201c summiert Donald Trump fortlaufend all jene Schlagzeilen, die nicht mit seiner politischen Gesinnung \u00fcbereinstimmen oder ihm aus sonstigen Gr\u00fcnden nicht genehm sind. Dass er sich dabei zu einem:einer der weltweit prominentesten Verbreiter:innen von Verschw\u00f6rungstheorien macht, legt nicht zuletzt der Umstand nahe, dass selbst der f\u00fcr seine Seriosit\u00e4t und Transparenz nicht gerade ber\u00fchmte Meta-Konzern, zu dem die Social Media-Plattformen Facebook und Instagram geh\u00f6ren, Trumps Accounts zeitweise sperrte.<\/p>\n

\u00dcberdies wurden wir gerade erst vor wenigen Wochen Zeug:innen der einzigen \u00f6ffentlich ausgetragenen Debatte zwischen den Pr\u00e4sidentschaftskandidat:innen Kamala Harris und Donald Trump, in welcher Letzterer mit dem viral gegangenen Statement \u201eIn Springfield, they\u2019re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they\u2019re eating the cats. They\u2019re eating the pets of the people that live there\u201c nicht zum ersten Mal ein an Absurdit\u00e4t kaum zu \u00fcberbietendes Ger\u00fccht in die Welt setzte, das tumultartige Szenen am zitierten Ort heraufbeschwor. \u00c4hnlich absurd, aber den Abstumpfungstendenzen unserer medial \u00fcberforderten Gesellschaft geschuldet, ist wohl, dass wir uns inzwischen \u00fcber derlei Aussagen kaum noch wundern oder gar erregen.<\/p>\n

In diesem Sinne kann man Roland Sch\u00f6ny, unserem diesmaligen Gastredakteur, gar nicht dankbar genug sein, dass er in derart von Emotionalit\u00e4t getriebenen Zeiten nicht davor zur\u00fcckscheut, sich einer zutiefst unsachlich gef\u00fchrten Diskussion zu widmen und der Systematik der Falschnachrichten auf den Grund zu gehen.<\/p>\n
